Amy Burnett with Arizona Game and Fish says if you take a hike this weekend, the best way to avoid a snake is to stay on the trail, as they’re likely hiding close by.
“They’re just, kind of, hanging out and you’re walking. So, chances are you’re actually passing lots of rattlesnakes that are feet away from you. Anyone that’s staying on a nice, wide trail and watching where they’re stepping, won’t encounter a rattlesnake.” Burnett said.
Burnett said the reptile is docile and will not bite unless provoked. While she encourages hikers to take pictures of rattlesnakes from a distance, she said, for your safety, do not take selfies.
