Medical Marijuana Researcher Closer To Beginning Study In Arizona

Medical marijuana researcher Dr. Sue Sisley is another step closer to beginning clinical trials in Arizona. Sisley plans to conduct the research in the Phoenix metro area.

After struggling to get university support for a medical marijuana study, Sisley moved forward with plans to conduct the research independently. And this week a private federally regulated institutional review board approved that request. An IRB is a committee that reviews and approves research using human subjects.

Sisley said her research will examine the safety and effectiveness of Marijuana as a treatment for veterans with PTSD.

"Our goal is to collect the most objective data so that eventually it can be published in peer reviewed medical journals," she explained.

Sisley said the study is now waiting on access to a federal supply of the study drug.
