Scott Carney's New Book Explores The Spiritual Journey And Mysterious Death Of Ian Thorson

Three years ago, a mysterious death occurred in the southern Arizona desert. Ian Thorson was part of a group of Tibetan Buddhists at the Diamond Mountain Center, founded by Michael Roach.

Roach is the first American to reach the title of Geshe, literally meaning "one who knows virtue" in Tibetan Buddhism. Some have expressed concern that Thorson took the teachings he learned at Diamond Mountain too far.

In his new book, " A Death on Diamond Mountain," Scott Carney explores Thorson’s death, how Roach became powerful and popular and why Arizona seems to attract so many people on spiritual journeys. We talked with Carney.
