Arizona Legislature OKs Voluntary REAL ID Driver's Licenses

After a couple of false starts, the Arizona Legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Doug Ducey that would allow the department of transportation to issue optional driver’s licenses that comply with the federal REAL ID Act.

Some federal facilities have started requiring REAL ID compliant identification. Airports begin in 2016.

And that would mean Arizonans would need a passport to travel domestically if they don’t have a REAL ID-compliant license.
