Central Avenue in midtown Phoenix.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been bringing you stories from along Central Avenue in our series “Central, PHX.” We’ve been driving along the roadway from South Mountain to North Mountain, meeting people who live and work in the neighborhoods that line the street.

Today, a different perspective on Central — namely, the road as a whole and its history. To provide it, I’m joined by Robrt Pela, a columnist for Phoenix New Times.

You can hear the last two segments in our series, “Central, PHX” tomorrow and Friday afternoon on The Show. There’s also a ton of extras, including photos, interactive maps and more audio at kjzzcentral.tumblr.com.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
