Whistleblower Doctor Disappointed By Continued Phoenix VA Wait Times

A year after exposing major delays in health care at the Phoenix VA hospital, the person who brought the original complaint about wait times said there has been little progress toward improvement.

While he said delays in treating patients are nowhere near where they were at the height of the problem in July or August of last year, retired Dr. Samuel Foote said improvement has been negligible.

A report this week from the Associated Press shows nearly 6 percent of the vets seen in Phoenix wait more than 30 days for an appointment.

And Foote says one of the problems is the fact that many of the people at the center of the healthcare scandal are still at the VA.

“They said they were gonna fire like 150 people. I think that number is four or eight, it’s hardly anybody," Foote said. "So there just not being held accountable and it just seems like they’re stalling and delaying, and certainly here in Phoenix.”

Foote said it would have taken close to a miracle to have fixed or nearly fixed all of the problems plaguing the hospital. He said while he’s not surprised by the progress so far, he is disappointed and saddened and thinks several people are still pretty angry about it.
