“The Homestretch” debut on PBS’s Independent Lens.

Homelessness is an issue that knows no bounds. It affects all races and age groups. But homelessness can be especially tough for young people trying to make it through school.

There are more than 19,000 students registered as homeless in the Chicago Public Schools and a new documentary airing next week on PBS profiles their struggles.

Anne De Mare and Kirsten Kelly are the co-creators of the documentary “The Homestretch,” which debut on PBS’s Independent Lens this Monday.

Like Chicago, Phoenix is no stranger to youth homelessness. Ken Lynch is with Tumbleweed Center For Youth Development, which serves vulnerable and homeless young people.
