The United States House Committee on Veterans Affairs will hold a hearing Monday afternoon about continued whistleblower retaliation.
Multiple Phoenix VA employees came forward last year which led to a nationwide scandal about delays in patient care.
The hearing will focus on the way the VA has been treating whistleblowers. Allegations of retaliation keep surfacing even though VA leadership claims it won’t be tolerated. There are about 120 active investigations into whistleblower retaliation.
More than 25 whistleblowers have gotten legal settlements, but it’s not clear if any employees who participated have been fired.
The Department of Veterans Affairs hasn’t supported bills to strengthen whistleblower protections. The hearing is intended to find out what the agency is doing to combat its alleged retaliatory culture.
