The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Phoenix is shutting down this summer to undergo a major facelift, which includes being stripped of its luxury brand name.

The hotel, located at 24th Street and Camelback Road, will close in July and reopen sometime early next year, according to a statementThursday by the owner, Host Hotels & Resorts Inc., a publicly-traded real estate investment trust with 113 hotel and resort properties in its portfolio.

It’ll reopen as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which is a smaller line of unique, upscale hotels, each with their own identity. Host Hotels officials said they have not yet decided on a new name.

The property will also have a new manager, Destination Hotels & Resorts, which operates the Royal Palms Resort in Phoenix, Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center and the Tempe Mission Palms.

It is one of only two Ritz-Carltons in Arizona — the second being the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Marana — although there are plans underway for a third location in Paradise Valley.

An exact closing date in July was not immediately available. The total cost of the renovation project was not disclosed.
