GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. — Motorists soon will be welcomed back to the Grand Canyon's North Rim.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said State Route 67 will reopen May 13. It's closed regularly over the winter season due to heavy snowfall.

The road lies at the southern end of the Kaibab Plateau, linking Jacob Lake to the North Rim. The plateau is about 8,500 feet in elevation and offers spectacular views of the canyon.

Services at the North Rim that include a lodge and gas station also will reopen next week.

The more popular South Rim stays open year-round. The drive between the two rims is about 215 miles.
