Recent cuts to all three state university budgets have meant schools like Northern Arizona University are not just increasing tuition. Now, NAU is considering less conventional streams of revenue.
When NAU lost more than $17 million in state budget reductions, President Rita Cheng proposed adding summer programs to help mitigate the effects.
According to the Arizona Daily Sun, Cheng announced the new programs last week, saying "increased revenue must be explored.”
Departments campus-wide are being encouraged to offer more summer classes. Cheng also said online programs are being considered.
In addition to those programs, the university is considering a tuition model that takes the actual degree program into account when determining what a student pays per credit hour.
