Online Shopping Is Supporting Beleagured Postal Service

eBay is saving the postal service.

The United States Postal Service saw a $1.5 billion loss in revenue between January and March.

Despite the decline in the amount of first class mail being sent as people pay their bills online and send more emails, the increase in individuals shopping on line is helping generate revenue.

The amount of packages shipped nationally increased by almost 15 percent in the last year, and Peter Hass with the Postal Service said Arizona ’s shipping volume is following the national trend.

“More and more people are ordering merchandise online and we’ve become quite a resource for those companies as well,” Hass said.

Hass said this has become a positive movement and they’re working to make shipping more accessible. The postal service hopes to see package shipping as a key business driver in the future.
