As temperatures heat up, attendance goes down at Saguaro National Park. But there's still a budding reason to visit.
The saguaros are blooming, which means clusters of white flowers can be seen on many of the park’s nearly 2 million saguaros. Don Swann is a biologist at the park who said there’s always a steep decline in visitors this time of year.
But those who do make it out are in for treat, thanks to "not only the saguaros but the cholla and the prickly pear, and a lot of other cacti that are blooming at this time of year," Swann said. "So it is really a nice time to visit southern Arizona, if you don’t mind a little bit of heat."
Swann said visitors should be able to see the blooms in both the east and west districts of the park. He expects the flowers to last for a few more weeks.
