Hiker Rescued After Falling Off Trail In Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A morning Mother's Day hike at a Scottsdale summit went horribly wrong Sunday when a hiker out with her two daughters fell.

Scottsdale Fire Capt. Danny Ables said the 74-year-old woman and her family were on the Sunrise Trailhead off of 136th Street and Via Linda when she fell 20 feet.

Another hiker called 911 and fire crews from Scottsdale and Phoenix responded.

Ables said the woman was 1 mile up on the trail's east side. He said because of the terrain and the nature of her injuries, firefighters had to conduct a helicopter rescue.

The woman has been taken to a Scottsdale hospital but Ables did not know her condition.

Ables did not say what caused her to fall.
