Wet Weather Delays Fire Restrictions At Some Arizona National Forests

Officials say it may be after Memorial Day until the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests implement fire restrictions.

Jackie Banks, a spokeswoman with the Kaibab National Forest, said last year they were in place by April, but added a wet winter and a series of spring rains have helped them to delay restrictions this year.

"It is very common for National Forests to be in some level of fire restrictions by Memorial Day in Arizona," Banks said. "This year, though, conditions just haven’t warranted going into restrictions yet."

Banks said conditions can change quickly and advises people to check with the Forest Service before visiting.
