The Christian share of the United States population is declining, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center. The study shows patterns in Arizona.
The Pew study shows the number of U.S. adults who describe themselves as Christians has dropped by nearly 8 percent in seven years.
Nationally, Christians make up about 71 percent of the population. Here in Arizona, people identifying as Christians make up about 67 percent of the population.
The survey also shows the share of Americans who identify with non-Christian faiths also has inched up, from 4.7 percent in 2007 to 5.9 percent in 2014. Non–Christians in Arizona make up a bit more of the population at 6 percent.
