A strong winter storm is heading into northern Arizona and it’s likely to bring snow to the high country this weekend.
Meteorologist Mark Stubblefield of the National Weather Service in Flagstaff said many parts of northern Arizona could get record snowfall this weekend.
“In 2008, on May 23, we had about four inches of snow, so it’s not completely unusual for us to get late spring snow," Stubblefield said.
In the higher elevations, like the Arizona Snowbowl, Stubblefield said there could be 4 to 6 inches of snow. Meantime, he said in the lower elevations, the problem will likely be rain.
“We’re looking anywhere from maybe about 2 tenths of an inch along southern Yavapai County, and then along the Rim Country, anywhere from a quarter to a half inch of rain," said Stubblefield.
Stubblefield said the northern Arizona highs over the weekend will be in the low 50s, with lows in the mid-30s.
