PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman who left her two young sons alone in a hot car during a job interview has been sentenced to 18 years of supervised probation.
The sentencing on Friday brings an end to the case that saw the single mother become a figure of public sympathy and then scorn.
A judge followed prosecutors' recommendation in sentencing 36-year-old Shanesha Taylor. Taylor's lawyer had asked for 10 years of probation.
Taylor also must attend parenting classes.
She pleaded guilty in March to felony child abuse.
Taylor's tear-stained mug shot was published online following her March 2014 arrest and garnered compassion and more than $100,000 in donations.
But she failed to meet a deadline to put some of the money into a trust for her children as part of an initial plea agreement. Prosecutors then reinstated charges.
