Diane Douglas, Arizona Board Of Education Meet In Court

Attorneys for State School Superintendent Diane Douglas and the State Board of Education were in court Thursday morning. Douglas filed the lawsuit last Friday after the board voted in April to move its 11 employees from the Board of Education Building.

Colin Campbell, who represents the board, said his client did done nothing wrong in moving the offices, arguing the action was better for those employees.

“We believe the facts will show the superintendent is creating a hostile work environment which required the Board of Education to make a policy decision with respect to where to put these employees,” Campbell said.

Attorneys for Douglas said she controls the employees who moved from the Department of Education offices two weeks ago for a new space in the Capitol Tower. Douglas’ attorney said that was an illegal act.

Judge Patricia Starr will hear arguments beginning June 26.
