Drought Is Bad In Arizona, But Worse In Surrounding States

Even with an unexpectedly wet May in the Valley, doesn’t it seem like we’re still in a drought? Well, we are. But not quite to the level of some of our neighbors.

Earlier this week, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a total of $21 million in assistance would go to areas of the West that are rated in the highest categories of drought. That includes parts of California, Nevada, Oregon and Utah.

We talked to Dave White, co-director of ASU’s Decision Center for a Desert City, about why Arizona was left out.
