Tucson Streetcar Marks Millionth Passenger

Tucson's streetcar system is celebrating reaching a milestone of 1 million passengers.

City officials say Anna Bjornsen became the millionth person to board the Sun Link streetcar Thursday afternoon.

Bjornsen was greeted by Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Sun Link officials.

She also received a pass good for one year of unlimited rides on the streetcar, the Sun Tran bus system and select Sun Shuttle routes.

Bjornsen, a University of Arizona student, says she regularly uses Sun Link to get to class.

Passengers who were on board at the same time received Sun Link memorabilia.

The streetcar will mark its one-year anniversary in July.

The nearly 4-mile streetcar line opened to great fanfare and was hailed as a way to bring people downtown and boost the local economy.
