Maricopa County is not asking for the federal judge in charge of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s civil contempt case to remove himself. The county filed a motion on that Wednesday afternoon.
In a unanimous vote, county supervisors decided they should not get involved because the county is currently appealing its status as a party to the case. That stems from an April ruling by a federal court that said Arpaio's office had been improperly named as a party and instead substituted the county.
Last week, Arpaio’s defense filed a motion arguing that Judge Snow's impartiality is now in question because of his decision to examine whether the sheriff ever investigated him or his family.
