PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The main post office in Prescott is being renamed to honor former Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater.
The post office on Miller Valley Road will be renamed to commemorate the late senator and 1964 presidential candidate on Friday.
Rep. Paul Gosar sponsored a House bill last year to have the office named for the Arizona native. It was supported by the entire congressional delegation and signed into law by President Barack Obama in December.
Goldwater served in the Senate from 1969 to 1986, when he retired and was replaced by Sen. John McCain. He died in 1998 at age 89.
A ceremony to mark the renaming will be held at the post office at 9 a.m. Friday with members of the Goldwater family attending.
