The number of deaths on Arizona highways dropped in 2014. That’s according to a study released Monday by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
According to ADOT, 774 people were killed last year on state and local streets and highways, compared to nearly 850 deaths in 2013.
According to the report, most collisions continue to occur between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. And Friday was the peak day for all crashes.
“As a state-wide community, we have to keep up efforts to drive smarter," said Doug Nintzel with the Arizona Department of Transportation. "That means buckling up, obeying speed limits, never driving while impaired and avoiding distractions. Those are such important factors.”
The study also shows a downward trend in alcohol-related fatalities since 2012. Speeding was the most commonly cited violation in accident reports.
