With Water So Scarce, How Sustainable Can Desert Cities Be?

ProPublica has published part two of its series on Colorado River water use. This week’s story looks at Las Vegas’ growth and whether that city’s longtime water czar Pat Mulroy was hypocritical in advocating the fast-forwarding of development while also talking about conservation.

We spoke with Robert Glennon, University of Arizona law professor and author of "Unquenchable: America’s Water Crisis and What to Do About It."

Glennon told us that future observers may wonder why people thought living in places like Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles would be sustainable.
