PHOENIX — The U.S. Forest Service is planning to burn about 500 acres in Apache County next week if weather permits.
Forestry officials said the prescribed burn is to improve wildlife habitats, watershed conditions and forest health around the area of Vernon, Arizona.
Officials said smoke from the burn might be able to be seen from Round Valley, Arizona Highway 260, U.S. Highway 60 and along forest road 61.
The burn is approved through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
