Melanoma Rates Increasing Among Arizona Caucasians

Melanoma rates have doubled across the nation in the past three decades, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Health economist Gary Guy is with the CDC. He said Arizona has one of the higher cancer rates in the country for a specific group of people.

"If you look solely among the non-Hispanic white population, which has the highest rates of melanoma, Arizona does have higher rates," Guy said.

Guy said 8 percent of the national melanoma cases reported by hospitals and clinics are attributed to indoor tanning.
