PHOENIX — State health officials said the designations of two hospitals in northeastern and southeastern Arizona as level three trauma centers help fill gaps in the state's emergency care network.
The recent designations of Tuba City Regional Health Care and Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista mean the state now has five level three trauma centers, along with 10 level one centers and 24 level four centers.
The department said the two additional level three centers are important because they're in largely rural areas distant from level one centers and because the vast majority of injured patients don't require care provided by highly specialized level one centers.
