Tucson Starts Search For Next Police Chief

TUCSON — A 15-member team is being created to help find Tucson a new police chief.

The Arizona Daily Star reported the Tucson City Council voted Tuesday to create a Police Chief Advisory committee which will interview job finalists.

Chief Roberto Villasenor, who has held his position for six years and been with the police department for 35 years, plans to retire in December.

The city has also contracted with search consulting firm Police Executive Research Forum for more than $43,000 to help with the hiring process.

The job announcement will be posted in August and left open for one month.

The new police chief must be appointed by the city manager and approved by the mayor and council.
