Why So Many MLB Drafted Players Are From Arizona

The Major League Baseball draft ended yesterday — 40 rounds and around 1,200 players later.

The Diamondbacks had the first overall pick, but the team wasn’t Arizona’s only representation in the three-day event. According to MLB, more players who went to either high school or college here have been drafted than those from all but four other states.

And this year, teams drafted more than 40 players from Arizona schools. To find out why, we turn to Derrin Ebert, a minor league pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds and works with a lot of the top prospects in the state. He said it comes down to one thing.
