Teenage drivers are costing their parents more money. A national study shows that the average married couple pays 80 percent more to add one teen to their auto insurance plan. In Arizona, families pay 96 percent more.
Laura Adams is the senior analyst for insurancequotes.com. She said Arizona is the eighth most expensive state to add a teen driver, and that factors like ZIP codes add to the equation.
"If you’re in a metro area, you’re in a more densely populated area with more vehicles on the road," Adams said. "In those situations you’ve got a lot more claims. So people who live in densely populated metro areas pay more."
Adams also said crime rates within a ZIP code and even gender are considered when adding teenagers to insurance plans.
Nationally, female teens add an 83 percent increase and male teens add a 109 percent increase.
The website also claims that Arizona is a popular vacation spot, which also plays a role.
