Pinal County Jail Inmate Died From Accidental Drug Overdose

FLORENCE, Ariz.  — A Pinal County jail inmate found unresponsive in his cell two months ago died from an accidental drug overdose.

County sheriff's officials said 22-year-old Skyler Clem of Florence was pronounced dead at a hospital April 25, the morning after he was booked into jail.

Clem was arrested by Florence police on two outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for DUI offenses.

The Pima County Medical Examiner's Office handled the autopsy and listed the manner of Clem's death as accidental and the cause of death from morphine intoxication.

Autopsy results show Clem had nearly 7 1/2 times the maximum dosage of morphine in his system that would be prescribed by a medical professional.

Sheriff's officials said Clem's mother told them that her son had a history of drug abuse.
