LAKE HAVASU CITY — Two scientists are planning to conduct research that they hope will lead to a better understanding of how to manage Lake Havasu, which provides drinking water for millions of people in Arizona and Southern California.
Today's News-Herald reports plant biologist and president of Arizona State University at Lake Havasu, David Young, announced Tuesday that he plans to ask university officials for money to develop a research center at the Lake Havasu campus.
Both Young and the city's water resources coordinator, Doyle Wilson, believe they'll be able to secure the funds needed for the project.
The research center would focus on Lake Havasu and the lower Colorado River. Wilson says top research priorities would include quagga mussels and microcystis, the algae blooms that locals commonly refer to as "green slime."
