Three major fires burning north of the Valley have caused smoky air conditions. But breathing can remain easy. Tim Franquist with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality said the fires burning at a higher elevation are keeping visible smoke from filling the Valley.
“Just like any fire, the higher you get it up in to the atmosphere, the better it is for dispersion,” he said.
Franquist said area air quality will get worse if the winds shift to the south. Some residents of Fountain Hills could be affected smoke moving in from the Horse Tank fire burning 1,500 acres north of Pine.
For those with existing lung and heart conditions, an Ozone Health Watch will remain in place through this evening.
