A group of Northern Arizona residents is trying to get a new federal designation for the land around Walnut Canyon National Monument. They want it to be made into a national conservation area.
Flagstaff resident Annette McGivney wrote an article about this effort for the July edition of Arizona Highways Magazine. Freelance photographer Tom Bean lives in the area and took the photos accompanying the article.
McGivney talked about how are people trying to make this designation change.
