Advocates Want Land Around Walnut Canyon Monument Designated A Conservation Area

A group of Northern Arizona residents is trying to get a new federal designation for the land around Walnut Canyon National Monument. They want it to be made into a national conservation area.

Flagstaff resident Annette McGivney wrote an article about this effort for the July edition of Arizona Highways Magazine. Freelance photographer Tom Bean lives in the area and took the photos accompanying the article.

McGivney talked about how are people trying to make this designation change.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
