Study: More Job Seekers Using Cellphones To Search, Apply For Jobs

A newly released study by the Pew Research Center says that 43 percent of Americans are searching for jobs with their cellphones and 18 percent of smartphone users said they used their mobile device to submit a job application.

Theresa Maher is with recruiting.com, a Scottsdale-based website that keeps up with current job recruiting software and technology. She said it’s important for employers' communication methods to evolve, but she doesn’t expect traditional methods of finding employees to fade out.

"I don’t think cell phones are going to take away from face-to-face communication," Maher said. "There is still that personal touch that has to happen when really finding out if a candidate is a right fit for an employer and if an employer is a right fit for a candidate."

The Pew survey, which was conducted in 2014, also showed that lower-income smartphone users were twice as likely to use their phone in a job search and more than four times as likely to use their phone to submit an application.
