Tourism is surging at Grand Canyon National Park and officials said that’s creating delays at entrance stations and for shuttle bus service.
Emily Davis, a Park Service spokeswoman, said there could be several reasons for the increased visitation.
“Gas prices might be a little bit cheaper this year than they were. October 2013 was the government shutdown, so we had an obvious decrease in visitation then,” Davis said.
Davis is asking anyone headed to the Grand Canyon over the holiday weekend to pack some patience. She said wait times at entrances and for shuttle bus service can be as long as an hour.
