Proudly flying the American flag on the Fourth of July has been a common sight. But when those flags wear out and tear, they are supposed to be disposed of.
Mark DeBruyckere with the Scottsdale Fire Department said they collect old flags for the Boy Scouts and VFW’s to retire.
“Most people don’t know how to dispose of them properly; they should be disposed in a ceremony. So, we’ll be that collection point to make sure that those flags get to the proper people so they can be disposed of properly,” DeBruyckere said.
All Scottsdale fire stations act as a collection point for retired American flags.
