Researchers at the University of Arizona wanted to find out why we throw away so much food at home.
Anita Bhappu is one of them. She’s an associate professor of retail and consumer sciences. She and her students surveyed a group of consumers’ buying by looking at the daily details. What they buy, how often, what goes in the crock pot and what ends up in the trash can — and they found shopping habits play a big role in waste and consumption.
Is this the classic case of our eyes are bigger than our stomachs or perhaps our refrigerators and we just end up buying more than we intended?
