The Confederate flag is a historical symbol in American History. Recently the flag has come under fire in the wake of the shootings in Charleston.
NASCAR, one of America’s most popular sports, is asking their fans not to bring Confederate flags to the racetrack.
Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale has joined in the effort with NASCAR. They are asking fans to no longer fly the Confederate flag at races.
“We are committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere free of offensive symbols," officials said in a statement.
The Phoenix racetrack is just one of 32 national raceways that have pledged their support in asking fans to refrain from flying the flag.
They hope that, along with the rest of the NASCAR nation, they can demonstrate a sense of mutual respect and acceptance for all who attend their events.
