Kingman Prison Riot Renews Debate Over Criminal Justice And Incarceration

More than 1,100 inmates from a private prison near Kingman have been relocated after disturbances and riots left parts of the prison uninhabitable.

The Arizona Department of Corrections will be investigating the incidents, which have renewed debate over the use of private prisons and incarceration in general. We’ll hear two perspectives today, starting with Caroline Isaacs, program director with American Friends Service Committee in Arizona and a supporter of criminal justice reform.

There are also people in the law enforcement community who’d like to see reforms in the area of criminal justice. Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk is one of them, although she doesn’t have a problem with DOC doing the investigation into the Kingman prison unrest.
