People from the local Bosnian community walked in downtown Phoenix to remember the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia.

Over the weekend a group of more than 250 people from the local Bosnian community walked in downtown Phoenix to remember the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia.

More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed in an area the United Nations had declared a safe zone.

Dijana Mujkic helped organize the Phoenix memorial event, which ended with a lecture and poetry in the Phoenix Burton Barr library.

"We will not forget what happened as a community. We will teach our children and their children what happened. In hopes of this truly never happening again," Mujkic said.

This was the first year Phoenix's Bosnian community held a public event to remember Srebrenica.
