A judge decided Friday that an Arizona mother will spend the rest of her life in jail after being convicted of killing her 5-year-old daughter.
Jerice Hunter was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted in April of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her daughter, Jhessye Shockley.
Prosecutors said the Glendale mother had a friend give her a ride to a nearby city so she could dump a suitcase with her daughter’s body in a trash can before telling authorities her daughter was missing.
They say the child was beaten and neglected before her body was dumped in 2011. Officers combed nearly 10,000 tons of garbage at landfills, but Jessye was never found.
