The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled on a white supremacist case. The man was convicted of a bombing that wounded a former black Scottsdale official.
On Monday the 9th circuit court upheld the convictions and sentences of Dennis Mahon. In 2004, white-supremacist Mahon sent a packaged bomb to the office of then Scottsdale Diversity Director Don Logan. Logan and his secretary were hurt.
Sixty-four-year-old Mahon argued his convictions were invalid because they were based on a federal law that makes it a crime to use explosives to destroy property used in interstate commerce. The federal appeals court ruled the diversity office was involved in interstate functions because it included planning events for attracting tourists. In 2012, a federal judge sentenced Mahon to 40 years in prison.
Logan now works for the city of Phoenix.
