A 59-year-old man faces at least 25 years in prison after being sentenced in a Phoenix cold-case killing in which DNA evidence provided a match decades later.

Judge Sam Myers of Maricopa County Superior Court on Tuesday sentenced Cudellious Love to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Love was convicted June 1 of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 27-year-old Laura Hundling.

She was discovered dead inside her apartment on July 17, 1989. She had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen and sexually assaulted.

DNA was collected from the scene of the crime, but police said it wasn't matched to Love until 2014.
