Jerome Homeowners Fighting Rules Against Vacation Rentals

Downtown Jerome is a mining town that has successfully become a tourist destination.

A group of homeowners in Jerome is trying to get their town to change its rules about renting out homes to visitors on vacation.

The Goldwater Institute, which is representing the homeowners, argues Jerome is incorrectly interpreting its zoning ordinance and not allowing residents to use their homes as rentals. We talked to Christina Sandefur, an attorney with the Goldwater Institute.

We did reach out to several officials with the town of Jerome, including the mayor, town manager and members of the council — none agreed to be interviewed on tape.

But the issue is also a concern for Troy Flanagan, vice president of state and local government affairs for the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
