The International Olympic Committee has awarded the 2022 Winter Games to Beijing, China.
That comes just a couple of days after Boston pulled the plug on its own bid for the 2024 Summer Game, which has a lot of critics wondering whether hosting the Olympics really makes sense for any American city. The costs run into the billions of dollars, including the construction of new facilities.
We spoke with Tom Sadler, president and CEO of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority. He’s been involved in the efforts to bring the Super Bowl and College Football National Championship to the area. Sadler said he understands why cities would hesitate to make an Olympics pitch.
