California Water Sanctions Make Arizona Homeowners Think About Fake Grass

Water sanctions on California residents during the drought are being noticed by Arizona homeowners.

Some Arizonans are cutting water use by removing their lawn, but many people want to keep their yard green by installing fake grass or turf.

Mary Clanton works for the Synthetic Grass Store in Phoenix. She said her company has seen an increase in installations.

“It doesn’t require any water," Clanton said. "It’s virtually maintenance free. On a daily basis, people are always talking about the raising and increasing cost of water.”

Clanton said a large percent of household water is used on landscaping. She said she expects the industry to keep growing as more people in Arizona understand the environmental benefits of artificial grass.
