The Salt River Wild Horse Management Group is taking legal action to stop the U.S. Forest Service from rounding up horses. Activist Simone Netherlands said the group filed a request for an injunction and a lawsuit.
She claims the Forest Service classification of the animals as unauthorized livestock is incorrect.
“That assumption that they just want to return this stray livestock to their rightful owners is so ridiculous,” Netherlands said. “They know that this is not stray livestock.”
The Forest Service has not set any date for said round up. The agency put out a public notice earlier in the week for owners to come claim their horses that may have wandered onto Tonto National Forest land.
