The New Year’s Eve Block Party held on Mill Avenue every year in Tempe is about to get smaller. The city of Tempe has approved plans to scale down their annual celebration.
The Downtown Tempe Authority made the recommendation to the Tempe City Council to downsize the event.
For 25 year, the Fiesta Bowl Committee sponsored the event and was its primary funder. Following the move of the Fiesta Bowl to Glendale in 2011, and the loss of the Tostito’s sponsorship in 2014, the DTA said it was no longer fiscally responsible to handle the financial burden of an event of that size.
Going forward the event will now be called “Countdown on Mill.”
